Sustainable Fashion Scotland
Brief:
Sustainable Fashion Scotland has made great headways in connecting individual players across the central belt of Scotland to the wider sustainable fashion community whilst being a driving force for change.
They wanted to gain traction in the highlands to further the movement toward sustainability in Scotland. This had previously been difficult to achieve due to a lack of existing connections between SFS and communities in the highlands.
Strategy:
Organise a social gathering event in Fort William featuring talks from local professionals in the fashion and textiles industry and interactive workshops to connect the local community with sustainability and each other.
Make sustainability accessible to all: - operate on a pay-what-you-like basis, to ensure no one is excluded due to cost.
- Record the speaker's talks to be viewed online by anyone who can not attend the event.
Goals:
Establish Sustainable Fashion Scotland’s presence in the Lochaber area and engage the local community with SFS’s mission to:
“Connect the fashion community in Scotland and accelerate collective action for a sustainable fashion transformation and explore through practice how communities can contribute to collective impact and collaborate to create place-based sustainable transformations.”
Provide an opportunity for the local community to come together to discuss and develop community action on sustainable fashion.
Assist with SFS’s continued efforts to expand its reach into more remote areas of Scotland.
Results:
Attendees reported via questionare that they were now more aware of the wider Scottish sustainability movement in fashion.
Participants sited learning mending techniques as one of the highlights of the evening.
Unanimous calls for more regular sustainable fashion events in Fort William - especially mending workshops and clothes swaps.
Interest in technical outdoor clothing exchanges, mending and re-working events.
